About
For last 50 years, Error correcting codes and Information theory field has been rapidly growing. The use of error correcting codes is indispensable and has become critical part of wireless and satellite communication, compact disks and hard-drives. The complexity and scalability issues related to any error correcting code has become increasingly important. With the advent of transfom codes, the idea of signal processing has been extended to coding theory also. In this work, we continue to explore this idea of using advanced signal processing techniques such as wavelets and filterbanks in coding theory. In the first part of this thesis we investigate the extension of newly developed theory of finite-field wavelet transform to error-correcting codes. We show how wavelet basis functions over finite field GF(2r) is used to develop new block and convolutional codes. We go on to develop the computationally reduced filter-based decoder for the double-circulant block codes and compare the performance measure of wavelet based codes with the conventional code. In the second part of this thesis we study the use of filterbank structure in the encoder and decoder of the existing error correcting codes such as Reed-Solomon code and present the filterbank based soft-in soft-out (SISO) RS decoder.
Keywords: Error Correcting Codes (ECC), Wavelet Transform, Filterbanks, Finite Field Transform, Reed-Solomon (RS) code, Cyclic code, Soft-In Soft-Out (SISO).
