Faculty Member, Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science
Assistant Professor
About
I am Guru; I did my Ph D with T A Abinandanan at the Department of Materials Engineering (then, Department of Metallurgy), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, INDIA; during my Ph D, I worked mostly on the elastic inhomogeneity effects on microstructural evolution. I spent six months with Ferdinand Haider at the University of Augsburg as a DAAD-UGC fellow during my Ph D trying to model elastic stress effects using Monte Carlo and Molecular Dynamics models. After Ph D, I spent two years at Northwestern University with Peter Voorhees as a post-doctoral fellow; during this time, I worked mostly on grain growth and related problems. Before relocating to IIT-Bombay as Assistant Professor, I worked at the Applied Mechanics Department of IIT-Delhi for about eight months as an Assistant Professor.
I am interested in modelling microstructural evolution, materials mechanics, and phase transformations. I use phase field models in my studies and spectral methods to solve the phase field equations numerically.
